General Motors, Walmart, Mastercard among 10 companies that have joined Ameren Corp’s Renewable Solutions program

The program was created by Ameren Missouri, a subsidiary of US-based power company Ameren Corp. The program is backed by a 150 MW solar facility in White County, Illinois, being developed by Invenergy. Ameren announced the acquisition of the project in Feb’22, and could begin supplying customers with the output from the plant as soon as 2024. Other customers part of the program include biotechnology company bioMérieux, industrial services company Emerson, health-care provider SSM Health, and local civic organization Bi-State Development.

The Renewable Solutions program is a subscription-based initiative that allows eligible businesses and organizations to replace up to 100% of their total energy use with renewable sources. Ameren Missouri will build renewable energy facilities on the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) grid to match demand from participating customers. The subscription is in the form of a 15-year long-term contract at a fixed price. Through the program, offtakers can support the addition of renewable energy to the grid and receive Renewable Energy Credits (RECS) in exchange.

The Renewable Solutions program may be expanded in the future to provide additional options for commercial, industrial and governmental customers. Ameren Missouri also has a  Community Solar program, which offers a tariff of $0.1192/kWh for residential customers and $0.1099/kWh for small business.
