Energizing Australia: The Rise of M&A Activity in the Renewable Sector: Australia is experiencing a significant increase in M&A activity within the renewable sector, with a particular focus on utility-scale solar projects. Leading utilities, including Genex Power and Origin Energy, are actively seeking early-stage projects in the northeast region of the country to expand their portfolios. In addition to utilities, major oil and gas companies such as TotalEnergies and Petronas are also venturing into renewables to diversify their portfolios. Furthermore, the wind sector, particularly in the southeast, is attracting attention from companies like Equinor and SSE, who are partnering with experts like Simply Blue and Subsea7 to tap into Australia's offshore wind potential.

Fueling East Asia's Future: Utility Deals and Offshore Breakthroughs: The acquisition of utility-scale assets in East Asia is currently a major focus, particularly for local utilities and private investors. These assets are primarily under 50 MW in size. In southeast Asia, utility power purchase agreements (PPAs) are the main driver for these acquisitions, while in the north, Feed-in-Tariffs play a key role. Looking ahead, north-east Asia, led by Taiwan and South Korea, is expected to take the lead in offshore wind activities in the Asia-Pacific region. This push will be supported by major players in the oil and gas industry, such as Equinor and bp, as well as private equity leaders like CIP and Corio Generation.

Solar-Powered Surge: India's Utilities Tackle Soaring Demand: India's utilities, including JSW Energy and ENGIE, are responding to the increasing demand for renewable energy by expanding their portfolios through the acquisition of solar platforms. This approach allows them to gain immediate access to assets and positions them for future growth through development pipelines. At the same time, private equity firms and their affiliates are shifting their focus to larger portfolios that offer higher returns. This trend is exemplified by the ongoing discussions involving industry giants such as Brookfield, CPPIB, and Eversource Capital, all of whom are interested in regional solar ventures.
