Our research highlights a game-changer: Reintroduction of direct PPAs for renewable energy projects, announced a couple of years ago.

Amid the challenges posed by the Russia-Ukraine war, developers in Romania are now signing long-term PPAs, with average wholesale electricity price ranging around €100/MWh. This has made renewable energy assets in the country highly attractive.

As a result, big players like Iberdrola, BayWa AG, OMV, and Premier Energy Romania are entering the market, acquiring assets from local developers.

A recent notable deal saw Nala Renewables acquire a 61 MWp solar PV project from Monsson Group. This late-stage development project is contracted under a long-term off-take agreement and is set to come online in 2025.

Romania is definitely a market to watch!
